Textual Analysis
This is a double page spread taken from Q magazine about Shakira and how she recorded and produced her album. The main image is of her at work, showing her in a natural setting like many women in their work place, with her hair left wavey and no harsh or thick make up. This is then contrasted with the image on the right where she is now posing for the camera, being unnatural. With her hair straightened, more make up and in a very glamorous and sexy pose, showing a much more intimate side to her. The use of the word 'Danger!' catchs readers attention and as the photograph is large and the pages are laid out nicely it doesn't seem as though there is huge amounts of text, which can sometimes put people of reading an article. Using a quote in larger and bolder font will cause the audience to read this first and then read on to see the whole story.
Textual Analysis
This contents page is much different as it has a main feature headed 'Albums of 2009' directing you straight to a specific page of interviews, this makes the magazine very clear and easy to use. Another useful feature to this page is the band index down the lef hand side, meaning you can find a particular band and turn straight to the page you need. The mast head is made large at the top of the page, also using the magazine logo to represent NME. Like Kerrang's contents page its contents is also down the right hand side and split into sections that are clearly headed making sure readers can clearly find what they are looking for. It also has an advertisement at the bottom of the page to show discounts available on the magazine so customers are attracted to buy the lower cost and subscribe for a longer period of time. Also it is well known on reporting up and coming gigs as we see from 'The UK's No 1 gig guide' at the bottom of the page, showing its a well known magazine and has been voted number one by the public.
Textual Analysis
This is a contents page taken from Kerrang magazine, they use more photographs than words to establish what will feature through out. This is an easier way to find what your looking for and also because it doesn't focus on well known artists it shows the genre of the magazine clearly. They have used a quote beneath the title 'contents' from a featured interview, this is a way of attracting the audience to read on especially if it inspires them, makes them laugh or they are fans of the star in this case Tom Gabel. They have also included a piece from the editor of the magazine at the top of the page, this may be used to make the reader feel they are being directly spoken to and given an insite from someone important. The contents are simply set out in a list of categories down the right handside, each section title with a text background colour to make it clearer. The use of the images works well in showing featured artists and also the fact most are the same size with one being much larger shows this may be a much bigger or the main article.
Textual Analysis
Straight away we can see that this magazine is more commercialised and popular as part of the mast head 'Rap-Up' is covered. The use of pinks and purples and flower background shows its much more appealing to females. The mast head is made bold and a different font to the rest of the page to show its importance and to stand out on the shelf. The features of the magazine are all names of who will be presented and written about in the magazine, the most popular being in a larger font. The use of 'secret' and 'shh' which is presented in bold and italics creates mystery and is used to persuade the audience to pick it up and find out what is hidden inside. As Christina Milian is a well known star she will be a role model for many young girls so they will want to find out about her life and the image of her in sunglasses further emphasises that she has secrets to tell. Males who are interested in her music or the artists that are mentioned on the cover will also be attracted especially as the photograph is quite raunchy and they may want to see what she has to reveal.
Textual Analysis
This is evidentally a very different type of music magazine. It seems a lot less main stream and more appealing to males rather than both sexes. It's again very simple with use of dull colours then the main features being in red to stand out and draw in attention. The logo is aimed at the younger generation because it looking like a teenagers design. The headline again isn't at the top of the page, the largest font runs through the middle of the page displaying the main story. It isn't a mainstream magazine, instead it is aimed at drum and bass fans. This is identified by the colours used and the font style. It is a neat, simple layout with a simple list, above the price and bar code, of featured stories and artists that will be discussed inside. The eyecontact of the men in the photo creates an intimate feeling, that we are going to be revealed the life of the stars and the fact that the photo doesn't seem to be airbrushed at a high level shows its not a typical high street magazine, more natural meaning its not about their image its simply about the music.

Textual Analysis
With this magazine the logo is very simple but because of the size and the colour being red (in contrast to the other colours being black and white), it is eye catching and easily recognised. It doesn't have a masthead at the top of the front cover instead the largest print is the name of the celebrity on the cover running through the middle of the page. This shows there is a large article on Lily Allen and because of the bold, red lettering underneath repeating 'wicked, wicked' will draw people in to read her story. The image of Lily being half nude and hiding part of her face shows secrets are to be revealed, she is making eye contact with the camera and therefore the audience will feel they will find out gossip so are then attracted to buy the magazine. Also working with this idea, the use of the panther's create a dangerous atmosphere maybe showing dirty secrets will be told in this edition. The cover isn't overly busy but more classy and expensive. There are only four colours used keeping it neat and simply sophisticated. There are a few different fonts used in the headlines with different sizes and bold being used throughout. The colours are unisex as well as the image appealing to both sexes as women may be a fan and want to read about the girls life or men who are attracted by the image being slightly raunchy as well as the big cats being there to attract males also.
